A true story from Dr. Siegel’s book recounts

There was a woman who had an autoimmune disease; her own body was attacking itself (or at least this is how it was perceived by mainstream doctors). The woman had a rheumatoid arthritis condition. By the time she reached doctor Siegal, she was already in a very crippled state and mainstream doctors said she didn’t have much time left to live, maybe 6 months. She was always in agonising pain. Dr. Bernie Siegel gave her the LOVE and DISLIKE method to practice.

In writing her lists of what she loved and what she disliked about herself, she saw that the dislike list was very long and the love list was very short. Just by looking at her lists she realised “OMG but this what I have been doing to myself for so many years! Maybe this is one of the causes of my physical condition, that I actually hate myself and my body is mirroring that!”
